Spatial Spillover Effects of the Digital Economy on Logistics Carbon Emission Efficiency: Evidence from the Yangtze River Economic Belt

Abstract

Using data from 110 Yangtze River Economic Belt cities (2011â€“2024), this paper finds that the digital economy generates significant
spatial spillover effects on logistics carbon efficiency that substantially exceed its direct effects, establishing spatial spillovers as the dominant
channel of carbon reduction benefits. Among three mediating pathways, the energy-efficiency channel dominates (21.0%) yet turns negative,
consistent with the Jevons Paradox. Spillovers peak at 450 km and attenuate beyond 1, 100 km. Human capital is uniquely dual-significant.
These results support organizing carbon governance around urban agglomerations.
