The Impact of Free Trade Zone Development on Urban Entrepreneurship Activity

Zhaoxing Liu, Zichao Yuan

Abstract

This paper empirically analyzes the impact of free trade zone (FTZ) construction on urban entrepreneurial activity based on data
from 258 prefecture-level cities in China from 2008 to 2022. The results indicate that FTZs significantly enhance entrepreneurial activity; the
effect is significant in eastern and western regions, but not yet apparent in central regions. Based on these findings, differentiated strategy recommendations are proposed.
