Research Progress on the Mongolian Medicine Tonglaga-5

Abstract

Tonglaga-5 (also known as Wuwei Qingzhuo San) is a representative classic compound formula in Mongolian medicine. Originating from ancient Mongolian medical texts, it is composed of five medicinal ingredientsâ€”pomegranate, safflower, cardamom, cinnamon, and
long pepper. It possesses traditional therapeutic properties such as warming the stomach to boost digestive fire, resolving stagnation and dispelling dampness, warming and unblocking channels, and separating turbidity from clarity to nourish the body. Clinically, it is widely used to
treat disorders across multiple systems, including digestive diseases, metabolic disorders, and bone diseases. The powder form of this formula
is listed in the 2020 edition of the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China, while the pill form is a commonly used modified dosage
form. In recent years, driven by the modernization of ethnic medicine, domestic researchers have conducted extensive studies on Tonglaga-5,
covering aspects such as its theoretical origins in Mongolian medicine, material basis, pharmacological effects and clinical applications. This
article systematically reviews the current research status regarding the formulation theory, chemical constituents, pharmacological actions,
clinical applications, and quality control of Tonglaga-5. It also outlines future research directions, aiming to provide a literature reference and
theoretical basis for elucidating the mechanisms, improving quality, developing new drugs, and promoting the clinical application of this classic Mongolian medicine formula.
