Non-intubated Versus Intubated General Anesthesia in Enhanced Recovery after Renal Transplantation: A Retrospective Comparative Study

Abstract

End-stage renal disease mainly relies on renal transplantation for radical treatment. Although surgical techniques have been greatly
improved, unified and standardized anesthesia schemes for renal transplantation are still lacking. Endotracheal intubation combined with mechanical ventilation is the mainstream anesthesia method at present, yet this mode increases airway injury and postoperative pulmonary infection risks. Non-intubated anesthesia represented by laryngeal mask airway (LMA) has achieved favorable effects in thoracic, esophageal and
orthopedic surgeries, but its application value in renal transplantation remains insufficiently studied. This retrospective cohort study enrolled
33 renal transplant recipients to compare the safety and postoperative recovery outcomes between LMA-based non-intubated anesthesia and
conventional endotracheal intubation general anesthesia under the ERAS framework, so as to provide evidence for optimizing perioperative
anesthesia management of renal transplantation.
