Research Progress on the Clinical Use and Safety of Bexagliflozin
Abstract
application value. Methods: Relevant domestic and international literature was retrieved, and existing studies on bexagliflozin were summarized. Results: Bexagliflozin is rapidly absorbed after oral administration and supports once-daily dosing. Its glucose-lowering efficacy is
non-inferior to dapagliflozin and remains consistent across different baseline HbA1c levels, as well as in elderly patients and those with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Accompanied by osmotic diuresis and caloric loss, it reduces blood pressure and body weight, without increasing
the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), demonstrating cardiovascular safety non-inferior to other drugs in the same class.
Adverse reactions are most commonly genitourinary tract infections, while volume depletion and ketoacidosis, though rare, warrant vigilance.
Conclusion: Bexagliflozin has a generally manageable safety profile and provides an effective treatment option for type 2 diabetes mellitus
(T2DM). However, given its relatively short time on the market, long-term outcomes remain to be validated.
