Gender Representation in Film and Media: Cultural Influence and Aesthetic Interpretation

Xin Hong

Abstract

As important cultural vehicles, film and media not only reflect mainstream gender concepts but also play a crucial role in reshaping
and reproducing them. This paper explores the dual functions of gender representation in film and media, focusing on its cultural influence and
aesthetic interpretation. By analyzing gender images and narrative strategies in film and television, the paper reveals how gender symbols construct audience perceptions of gender roles and impact self-identity. Additionally, it examines the evolution of gender representation in visual
aesthetics, narrative structures, and symbolic expressions, particularly in breaking traditional gender stereotypes. The study also investigates
how gender representation shapes societal gender concepts and drives social behavior, highlighting the profound influence and transformative
potential of film and media in addressing gender issues.
