An Interpretation of The Old Man and the Sea from the Perspective of Animal Narrative

Xinglin Qian

Abstract

Animal narrative examines the relationships between humans, animals, and nature. In The Old Man and the Sea, Hemingway used
animals to reveal human nature, celebrate animal life, and reflect on humanitys connection with the natural world. Through the symbolic lion,
Hemingway embodied the law of the jungle, which drives human instincts. The novel explored pathways for harmonious coexistence between
humanity and nature.
