The Study on the Current Status of Ethnic Identity among Students of the Three Major Ethnic Groups in Malaysia

Abstract


This study investigated the current status of ethnic identity of students from three major ethnic groups in Malaysia (Malay, Chinese
and Indian) and the factors influencing it. The study further analyzes the dual role of education policy and globalization on national identity,
both in terms of facilitating cross-cultural exchange and unification of national languages, and to a certain extent, weakening the cultural identity of non-Malay ethnic groups.
