Investigating and Facilitating Pre-service EFL Teachers TPACK Development in Teaching Competitions

Abstract


Extant studies on EFL teachers Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) have primarily focused on in-service
teachers, while few studies investigated pre-service EFL teachers TPACK development, especially in teaching competitions, which have been
gaining popularity and recognition in China. To fill this gap, this case study focused on two pre-service EFL teachers TPACK development in
a provincial-level teaching competition. Qualitative analysis revealed that despite certain barriers, their TPACK was greatly developed through
interpretation of competition rules, instructional design, expert and peer feedback. Findings of the study direct researchers understanding of
TPACK development to an emerging domain and provide pedagogical and practical implications for pre-service EFL teachers and teacher
educators in China.
