Perspectives on Artistic Production: Spanish Translation and Social Dissemination of Mao Dun Literature Prize-Winning Works (1981-2024)

Abstract


This study focuses on the translation and dissemination of novels awarded the Mao Dun Literature Prize within the context of the
Spanish-speaking culture. Its main purpose is to examine how these literary works move and transform into artistic productions within a contemporary globalized environment, as well as to explore opportunities for their reclassification and reinterpretation in the Spanish-speaking
literary market. The analysis is based on the application of Pierre Bourdieus theory of social practice and Bruno Latours actor-network theory, providing a comprehensive view of the three key dimensions of the translation process: initiation, production, and dissemination. Through
data mining techniques and specific case studies, the article constructs a network model that considers a variety of involved actors, such as
market forces, editorial strategies, publishing operations, authors creative intentions, and reader feedback. This methodological approach reveals how multiple factors, both human and non-human, interrelate and contribute to the international translation and dissemination of these
literary works. By uncovering the dynamics of these actors and their interactions, the study provides a deeper understanding of the processes
involved in the global circulation of award-winning literature.
