The Interpretation of the Cinderella Complex in Pride and Prejudice

Lijuan Dai

Abstract

Jane Austens works have become classics in the minds of generations of readers. As one of the most widely circulated fairy tales in
the world, Cinderellas story core has long been a classic paradigm in western literature and even world literature. As is evident in Pride and
Prejudice, Jane Austen embraced the joyous and occasionally idealistic themes prevalent in fairy tales, subsequently crafting her own retelling
of Charles Perraults version of Cinderella. The Cinderella Complex under Austens works is not a simple imitation, but is endowed with rich
historical content and colors. This thesis attempts to explore the archetype of Cinderella in Pride and Prejudice.
