The Reconstruction of the Image of Western Monsters in the American TV Series Grimm
Abstract
The original fairy tale world is replaced by an overlap of the real and the fictional realms, where beautiful fables are interpreted as historical
conflicts and struggles between different species. Grimmsubverts and reflects on traditional Monsters; where absolute notions of good,
evil, beauty, and ugliness are dissolved by the personalities and human nature of Grimm; s creatures. The binary oppositions of righteousness
and evil and good and evil become fluid and ambiguous. While this subversion and reconstruction, along with the questioning and negation
of the self may seem overly extreme, it also prompts us to gain a deeper and more sober understanding of ourselves. From another perspective, it is a reflection and profound contemplation on humanity and human nature.
