Shiyao Yang, Raja Azrul Hisham Raja Ahmad

Abstract

To explore the impact of social media on psychological well-being of junior high school students, the PWB scale (Psychological
Well-being Scale) was used to evaluate 258 junior high school students in six dimensions: self-acceptance, personal growth, life purpose,
positive relationships, environmental control, and autonomy. The results show that the frequency of social media usage is positively
correlated with self-acceptance, personal growth and good relationships. The duration of social media is negatively correlated with environmental control and autonomy. Duration is positively correlated with positive relationships and self-acceptance. Research results show
that the unreasonable use of social media can have a negative impact on the PWB of junior high school students. Parents, schools and social media organizations should control the time and content of junior high school students’ use of social media, pay close attention to the
psychological dynamics and behavioral actions of junior high school students at all times, and carry out a variety of PWB intervention
activities, so as to enhance students’ awareness of PWB. Make reasonable use of social media platforms to establish a positive attitude
towards life and values.
