Innovative Adaptation of Auspicious Motifs from Minnan Turtle Cake Moulds in Silk Scarf Design

Ruoyao Li, Fuwang Guan*

Abstract

The turtle cake mould(????), as one of the cultural symbols of the Minnan region, this intangible cultural heritage carries
profound spiritual meaning and collective memory, making its protection and transmission particularly significant. This paper focuses on the
auspicious motifs found in Minnan turtle cake moulds, interpreting their thematic content and symbolic meanings. Representative patterns are
extracted and integrated with the compositional techniques of four-direction continuous pattern design. The silk scarf is employed as a medium for innovative design, serving to explore the possibilities and diversity of reinterpreting these auspicious motifs. This paper offers a point
of reference for the preservation and continued development of Minnans traditional turtle cake mould culture.
