Emotional Depiction and Vocal Interpretation: A Musical Analysis and Performance Study of P. Mascagni’s Voi lo sapete, o Mamma

Abstract

This study examines the aria's central dramatic function, intricate musical structure, and emotional depth, focusing on melodic contour, harmonic language, and rhythmic nuance as means of expressing Santuzza's inner turmoil. Moreover, it offers interpretative guidance
for singers, addressing vocal challenges and strategies to convey the aria's pathos with authenticity. Through this exploration, performers may
gain deeper insight into Mascagni's verismo style while advancing interpretive skills essential for professional vocal artistry.
