On the Role of the Preservation of Old Cities in the "Value Reconstruction" of Urban Cultural and Tourism Development

Abstract


The preservation of old cities remains a difficult issue in the development of contemporary urban cultural tourism. This article begins with the phenomenon of various measures currently being taken for old cities during urban development, and considers how to leverage
existing resources to drive the development of urban cultural tourism. Drawing on existing case studies, this paper summarizes three dimensions of value construction: "material space, " "social function, " and "cultural narrative."The key to enhancing a city's cultural and tourism
competitiveness.
