Mazu Image Identification from the Perspective of Maritime Communication: A Study Based on Southeast China
Abstract
This study explores the Mazu cultural image's construction across different Chinese regions from an ocean communication perspective. Using qualitative interviews in Fujian, it compares coastal and inland perceptions. Findings reveal a hierarchical image: from "marine
protector" to "cultural identity symbol" to "universal moral symbol, " shaped by regional culture, personal experience, and media exposure.
