From the "Campus Collapse" Rumor to Information Disorder: The Generation, Viral Dissemination, and Collaborative Governance of Misinformation

Abstract


In todays social media environment, information disorders that take place in many public affairs has become continually more remarkable, bringing about serious adverse impacts on social security and stability. Therefore, it is necessary to seek more effective methods and
ways of governance. This study investigates the online distribution of an erroneous short video captioned "Collapse of Weihai Economic and
Technological Development Zone Experimental Primary School, " which was disseminated to the public on September 1, 2025 and caused a
wave of public opinion. The mechanism of transmission in the context of the new media ecosystem is analyzed in order to determine the public opinion consequences of its dissemination, leading to governance policy recommendations. The results seek to be of use to the government
and related institutions in the coordination of online comment regulation and rumor control, all of which contribute to the construction of a
sound cyberspace and a stable society.
