Abstract

This paper is a Chinese-English translation practice report. The source text is selected from the childrens literature essay Notes
of Love by Hunan childrens literature writer Deng Xiangzi. There is no English translation of the book yet. Notes of Love is an anthology
that records the stories from each stage of his daughters growth in a diary way from a fathers perspective, with strong emotional color and
cultural characteristics. Under the guidance of Reception Aesthetics, the translator uses the core concepts such as "Horizon of Expectation"
and "Gap-filling". This paper discusses the difficulties and coping strategies of the source text in the process of Chinese-English translation.
It focuses on the challenges encountered at the lexical, syntactic, and rhetorical levels. Cultural-loaded words and terms of address need to be
combined with transliteration, annotation and free translation flexibly. Elliptical and compound sentences need to be supplemented or adjusted
in order to help the target readers fill in the textual gaps; and rhetorical devices need to be flexibly adjusted to meet the Horizon of Expectations of target language readers. This report believes that Reception Aesthetics helps to improve the cultural expression and reader resonance
of the translation.
