Afternoon Tea in The Portrait of a Lady -- A Witness of Cultural Collision, A Reflection of Human Nature and A Hint of Female Destiny

Abstract

This article is an attempt to analyze the food description──afternoon tea in The Portrait of a Lady. From an objective and critical
perspective, it is concluded that afternoon tea in the novel has profound symbolic significance.Afternoon tea is a witness of cultural collision,
a reflection of human nature, and a hint of female destiny. They are explained and proved through analyses of detailed descriptions of food in
the novel──afternoon tea.
