Oral History and Research on Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritors in Northwest Sichuan: Taking "Baima Folk Songs" as an Example

Xuan Wu, Ning Lyu, Anne Thingnam*

Abstract

This study adopts oral history of inheritors as the core method, selecting three Baima folk song inheritors of different generations
from Pingwu County in northwest Sichuan for field interviews. Combining audio recording and text collation, it sorts out their inheritance
pedigree, artistic characteristics, and contemporary dilemmas. The research finds that under the classification system of wine songs, dance
songs, and miscellaneous songs, Baima folk songs have formed a unique form characterized by "Baima language singing + syncopation +
falling cadence". However, their living inheritance faces three major challenges: language loss, generational gap in inheritance, and shrinking
performance scenarios.
