Cross-Cultural Contexts: Semiotic Meaning Analysis and Communication Strategies in Visual Communication Design

Zhidan Xiao

Abstract

In the era of deep globalization, visual communication design has become the core medium for cross-cultural communication. As
the basic unit of design, the interpretation and transmission of semiotic meaning directly determine the effectiveness of cross-cultural com
munication. Based on semiotic theory, this study analyzes the semantic characteristics and etiologies of semantic deviation in visual symbols
across cultural contexts through the dual dimensions of signifier and signified. Integrating concrete design practice, it proposes strategies that
balance cultural authenticity and communicative adaptability, aiming to dismantle cultural barriers in semiotic transmission, facilitate effec
tive communication in cross-cultural visual design, and provide theoretical reference and practical guidelines for global visual communication
design practice.
