An Analysis of the Influence of Postmodernist Thought on Chinese Modern and Contemporary Literary Creation

Yuxuan Xiao

Abstract

Postmodernism, a major cultural trend that emerged in the mid-20th century, entered Chinese literary circles in the late 1970s and
early 1980s alongside the country's reform and opening-up. It challenged traditional narrative and aesthetic norms, reshaping creative con
cepts, narrative strategies, and value orientations in modern and contemporary Chinese literature, thereby promoting diversity and innovation.
Its integration into Chinese literature was not a simple transplant but a dynamic process of adaptation and fusion with local cultural contexts.
This paper traces the spread of postmodernist thought in China, analyzes its influence on literary creation in terms of concepts, techniques,
and themes, and discusses the challenges and implications of this integration. It aims to offer insights for further research on the relationship
between postmodernism and Chinese modern and contemporary literature.
