Yiying Deng, Han Chen*

Abstract

Chaozhou grey sculpture is a precious heritage of Lingnan architectural art that carries rich cultural connotations, yet it is under
threat amid modernization. Schema Theory, a cognitive psychology framework, offers an effective solution. As a cognitive structure formed
by experience, it provides significant guidance for cultural inheritance and innovation. Theoretically, it fills the research gap of cognitive stud
ies on grey sculpture and enriches the theoretical system of intangible cultural heritage. Practically, it helps identify audiences' cognitive needs
and supports the design of innovative strategies to revitalize Chaozhou grey sculpture and integrate it into modern life.
