Application of the Auditory Metaphor in Teaching the Chinese Color Terms Hong and Bai in International Chinese Education: An Analysis and Application of Cognitive Metaphor Theory

Abstract

Based on cognitive metaphor theory, this paper explores its application in international Chinese education, especially in the teaching
of Chinese color terms. Focusing on the auditory metaphor hypothesis, it examines how auditory experience can support learners' understanding of cross-domain mappings between color, emotion, and culture. By using Chinese songs as teaching materials, teachers can help learners
activate the basic meanings of color terms and further understand their abstract and cultural meanings in context. Through Chinese-foreign
cultural comparison, learners can also improve semantic discrimination and reduce cultural misunderstandings. Taking hong (red) and bai
(white) as examples, this paper discusses the advantages of auditory metaphor in color-term instruction and proposes a practical teaching path
for improving abstract vocabulary learning.
