Vernacular Garden Landscape Regeneration Design in Traditional Villages from the Perspective of Rural Revitalization

Abstract


The rural revitalization strategy has advanced traditional villages to shift from static heritage protection toward living activation
development. As an aggregation of farming civilization and regional human settlement wisdom, vernacular gardens' regeneration design has
become a powerful lever for balancing the ecological, cultural and industrial development of the villages. This paper analyzes the similarities
and differences among the mainstream regeneration design paradigms such as landscape gene restoration, four-Tai (Forms, Business Formats,
Culture, and Ecology) collaborative construction, and localization low-tech construction, and reveals the application boundaries and inherent
laws of various regeneration methods. It points out that the existing research focuses on creating space but neglects the long-term operation,
and emphasizes static protection but ignores dynamic iteration. It also presents forward-looking insights on the prospects of regenerative
development of vernacular gardens oriented by multi-disciplinary integration, digital technology empowerment, and co-construction & co-governance, aiming to provide reference for improving the quality of traditional villages' living environment and passing down the vernacular
culture heritages through generations.
