Yujie Wang, Pengpeng Gao*

Abstract

With the advancement of economic globalization, more and more cosmetics have entered the Chinese market, and advertising plays
a crucial role in sales and brand promotion in the Chinese market. The improved translation will help Chinese consumers better understand the
English cosmetic products and be of great use.
As a branch of business translation, cosmetics advertising has a particular type of business. Given that the practical and functional nature
of cosmetic advertisement language requires it, both genre features and translation rules should be considered during the translation of such
text. Translation should aim to present product information, motivate consumers to purchase, and enhance brand power. Therefore, a system
for translating cosmetics advertisements needs to be built.
Based on the Skopos theory, this paper will select some representative cases to explore and summarize the translation strategies for English cosmetic advertisements. Based on the above research results, Skopos theory can be applied to identify the specific linguistic features of
such texts. Systematisation of these translation methods will help promote the development of cosmetic brands, enhance consumer awareness,
and provide a reference for translation practice.
