Application of Etymology in High School English Vocabulary Teaching

Abstract


Etymology has an important application value in senior high school English vocabulary teaching. By exploring the etymology,
students can understand the evolution process of vocabulary, master the meaning of roots and affixes and their combination rules, so as to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of memory vocabulary. Etymology teaching not only enriches the interest of vocabulary learning, but also
improves students language perception ability and cultural understanding ability. Research shows that the introduction of high school English
vocabulary teaching with etymology knowledge can significantly improve students vocabulary and reading comprehension ability, so that
students can have a more thorough understanding of English vocabulary. Therefore, it is an effective vocabulary teaching strategy to integrate
etymology knowledge in high school English teaching.
