The Application of Schema Theory in English Teaching of IELTS Listening

Abstract


English listening, as an input source in language teaching, has always played an important role. Students need to absorb a large
number of corpus through listening practice to comprehend the text. In language test of English proficiency, listening ability is quite essential.
The traditional teaching method is relatively single. The teacher simply is a playback machine. Students cant actively listen and distinguish
the content in listening class. Therefore, more diversified listening teaching methods need to be explored. Through the analysis of schema
theory, this paper aims to apply it into teaching of IELTS listening, acquire the basic listening skills and top-down processing, and improve
students listening ability.
