The Mediating Role of Self-regulated Learning Ability in the Relationship between Critical Thinking and General Self-efficacy among Nursing Undergraduates
Abstract
cross-sectional survey of 141 undergraduate nursing students from November 2024 to April 2025. Data analysis revealed significant positive
correlations (r=0.396-0.565, p<0.001) between their critical thinking (274.5435.96), self-regulated learning ability (105.4614.78) and general self-efficacy (26.455.71). Bootstrap mediation effect tests showed that critical thinking mediated general self-efficacy through self-regulated learning ability (total effect coefficient=0.0630, 95% CI:0.0385-0.0874; indirect effect share 67.0%, 95% CI:0.0243-0.0601). The results
suggest that nursing education can be effective in enhancing students self-efficacy to cope with clinical challenges by integrating strategies to
simultaneously strengthen critical thinking and self-regulated learning skills.
