Malnutrition in Liangshan Yi Children: A Field Study on Causes and Solutions
Abstract
Autonomous Prefecture. It uses original field data and structured interviews to address the anthropometric and cognitive delays experienced
by local children, analyze the gaps in national and local policies, and suggest a culturally based, educationally focused, and whole-systems
response. The report finds nutrition issues to be rooted in structural poverty, cultural eating practices, and a lack of nutrition literacy, particularly among left-behind children living with elderly caregivers. Sustainable improvements necessitate addressing nutrition through household
education and community involvement, and support for localized food production and distribution.
