China-Kenya TVET Cooperation: A Case Study of International Educational Partnership

Qian He

Abstract

This study analyzes Kenyas technical and vocational education and training (TVET) development and explores China-Kenya TVET
cooperation opportunities under the Belt and Road Initiative framework. Using literature analysis and case study methods, this research examines Kenyas TVET system evolution, current characteristics, challenges, and governance mechanisms, while exploring cooperation models
through typical cases. Kenyas TVET demonstrates integration with general education, diverse vocational coverage, and practical skills emphasis. However, challenges persist including unreasonable educational structure, insufficient funding, and outdated equipment. China-Kenya
TVET cooperation has achieved positive outcomes through training projects, skills competitions, and Luban Workshop initiatives. The BRI
provides unprecedented opportunities for China-Kenya TVET cooperation through joint curriculum development, teacher training support,
and equipment assistance to enhance Kenyas TVET quality and cultivate internationally-oriented technical talents.
