The Synergistic Role of Virtual Marine Environments in College Students Mental Health and Ocean Literacy Education
Abstract
of virtual marine environments (VMEs) in education has attracted increasing academic attention. This study adopts a review-based approach
to systematically analyze the dual functions and synergistic effects of VMEs in college students' mental health education and ocean literacy
education. First, VMEs simulate restorative blue spaces that effectively reduce stress, anxiety, and depression while promoting positive emotions and psychological recovery. Second, immersive virtual marine experiences enhance students' cognitive understanding of marine ecosystems, foster environmental responsibility, and encourage pro-ocean behavioral intentions, thereby improving overall ocean literacy. Third, the
integration of interdisciplinary approachessuch as experimental psychology, educational intervention design, and the combination of qualitative and quantitative methodsprovides a solid foundation for advancing this field. Finally, current challenges such as limited sample sizes,
short intervention durations, and technology dependence are discussed. Future research should emphasize localization in educational practice,
long-term outcome evaluation, and the deep integration of mental health and environmental education. This review provides theoretical support and practical implications for applying VMEs in higher education.
