A Study on the Systematicity and Ideographic Features of Chinese Characters from a Cross-cultural Perspective and Its Pedagogical Strategies

Yulin Cai

Abstract

Chinese characters are the oldest existing logographic writing system in the world. Their logographic nature inevitably ties them to
the interpretation of meaning. In the context of globalization and from a cross-cultural perspective, a thorough exploration of the ideographic
and systematic features of Chinese characters is of great significance for improving the acquisition of Chinese characters by foreign learners
of Chinese. This study, based on a cross-cultural perspective, analyzes the ideographic and systematic characteristics of Chinese characters in
depth and compares them with phonographic writing systems to highlight their significant differences and distinctions. It then proposes targeted Chinese character teaching strategies to enhance the efficiency of Chinese character instruction.
