Practical Exploration of Project-Based Learning for Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation

Lihui Hou, Lihong Wang

Abstract

In response to the problems of divorce between theory and practice and deficiency in cultivation of students' engineering ability
in the traditional teaching model of Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation, this paper relies on the teaching reform practice of
Schools of Mechano-Electric Engineering in local colleges and universities to explore and study the project-based learning. The paper first
analyzes the main issues in the traditional teaching model and defines the necessity of project-based learning, then constructs a "three-tier and
three-stage" project system, and elaborates a teaching implementation process based on "project actuation- task division-process control-multi-dimension assessment" in detail, and finally, verifies the efficacy of this teaching model on enhancing students' engineering design ability,
innovative thinking and teamwork skills through teaching practice data and typical cases, and proposes some optimization strategies. Research
shows that project-based learning can effectively connect theoretical knowledge with engineering practice, and provides a feasible pathway
for the cultivation of high-quality application-oriented talents in mechanical engineering.
