The Influence of Confucianism on the Interpersonal Communication of Contemporary Chinese College Students

Jie Jia

Abstract

Confucian thought served as the orthodox educational philosophy of China's feudal dynasties, playing a crucial role in maintaining
social stability during ancient times. As the mainstream ideology of traditional Chinese culture, Confucian thought formed the core of ancient
Chinese educational philosophy. Concepts such as "Ren" (benevolence), "Li" (propriety), "Zhongyong" (the Mean), "Three Bonds and Five
Constants", "Five Relationships", and "Eight Virtues" profoundly influenced the communication patterns of Chinese people. This paper examines the interpersonal communication concepts and limitations within Confucian thought, thereby discussing their positive impact on contemporary Chinese college students' interpersonal interactions. It also explores integrating Confucian communication principles into higher
education institutions to provide new approaches for cultivating students' interpersonal skills, ultimately promoting their comprehensive development in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education.
