Design and Practice of OBE Loose-leaf Teaching Material for Pharmacology of Engineering Technology Undergraduate in Pharmaceutical Engineering

Xuyuan Zhang, Meihong Ge

Abstract

To achieve the educational objectives of "competency-focused and position-oriented" talent development in pharmaceutical engineering undergraduate education, this study designs an OBE-based modular pharmacology textbook that integrates outcome-based education (OBE) principles with the flexible, dynamic nature of modular textbooks. By establishing four core learning outcomesunderstanding
and interpretation, analysis and application, design and evaluation, communication and collaborationthe textbook features five modules:
"Guidance and Objectives", "Foundational Concepts", "Systematic Principles", "Practical Applications", and "Comprehensive Innovation".
Accompanied by diversified components such as "Learning Task Sheets" and "Competency Assessment Sheets", it creates a teaching cycle
characterized by "goal-oriented, competency-driven, and dynamically updated" pedagogical approaches. This textbook addresses the disconnect between theory and practice and outdated content in traditional pharmaceutical engineering materials through deep integration of pharmacological knowledge with real-world roles in production, quality control, and formulation development. It provides valuable references for
professional undergraduate pharmaceutical engineering education system construction.
