Innovative Practice of "Performance-Creation Integration" Teaching Model for Music Majors in Higher Education

Yuanyuan Wang, Qihui Yang, Li Jiang

Abstract

Music education has long suffered from the separation of performance and composition, constraining comprehensive student development. The "performance-creation integration" teaching model, grounded in intentionality theory, plural subject theory, and embodied cognition theory, reconstructs performers' subjectivity in musical creation, establishing a teaching system that integrates performance practice with
creative experience. This model establishes tiered teaching objectives emphasizing both performance and creation, designs curricula integrating performance and composition, builds practical platforms for "creating within performing and performing within creating, " and constructs
multi-dimensional assessment systems valuing both capabilities. It effectively awakens students' creative instincts, enhances personalized interpretative abilities in stage performance, cultivates interdisciplinary talents meeting music industry demands, and provides a new paradigm
for transforming higher music education from skill transmission to comprehensive literacy cultivation.
