Research on the Role of Translation in Vocabulary Acquisition
Abstract
whether the Translation method can enhance vocabulary retention. 84 first-year undergraduate students from a private university in China,
were put into experimental group and control group. In the experimental group, vocabulary was imparted through the Translation method,
whereas participants in the control group learned vocabulary autonomously. The study compared the examination scores and vocabulary
questionnaire scores of the experimental class at the commencement and conclusion of the semester. Moreover, a comparison was conducted
regarding the final grades between the two groups. The data analysis indicates that the Translation method enhances vocabulary retention and
suggests that translation is a valid and effective language learning activity suitable for implementation in English classrooms.
