An Investigation into the Mental Health of Primary and Secondary School Students in a Chinese County

Yue Sun

Abstract

This study focuses on the mental health of primary and secondary school students to support the development of school education.
Using a questionnaire survey, 458 students from a county in China were randomly selected as participants. The results indicate that the overall
mental health status of students from grades four to six in primary school and secondary school is generally positive. The primary psychological issue identified was learning anxiety. Significant differences in mental health were observed based on gender, urban-rural location, and
grade level. In response to these findings, it is recommended that schools prioritize mental health initiatives by establishing dedicated mental
health centers and organizing specialized lectures. Educators should integrate mental health education with ideological and political instruction. Furthermore, families are encouraged to adopt appropriate educational perspectives. A collaborative approach between schools and families is essential for enhancing students' mental health levels.
