An Interpretation of Captain Nemo' s Character
Abstract
This paper explores Captain Nemo in 20, 000 Leagues Under the Sea. Nemo refused to be a slave to the colonists, and give up his
personal dignity. Through his personality, it can be seen that he represents the rising stage of the bourgeoisie, the kind of self-improvement
and enterprising spirit. The freedom of space and material is only the externalization of Nemo's spiritual freedom. 20, 000 Leagues under the
Sea is also a bold manifesto of the free spirit of Jules Verne.
