Algorithmic Information Environments and Adolescents' Ethical Cognition: Mechanisms and Educational Interventions in the AI Era

Abstract


The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly reshaped adolescents digital environments and patterns of
social interaction. Algorithmic recommendation systems and data-driven information platforms increasingly influence how adolescents ac
cess information, form opinions, and make ethical judgments. While these technological systems provide new opportunities for learning and
communication, they also introduce potential risks related to ethical cognition and moral responsibility. Algorithmically mediated digital en
vironments may contribute to ethical cognitive bias among adolescents, including fragmented moral judgment, weakened empathy in online
interaction, and blurred boundaries between digital rights and responsibilities.
This study examines the mechanisms underlying adolescents ethical cognitive bias in the context of artificial intelligence. Drawing on
perspectives from digital ethics, moral development theory, and media studies, the paper proposes a TechnologyPsychologySociety analyti
cal framework to explain how algorithmic information environments, adolescents developmental characteristics, and social institutional fac
tors interact to shape ethical cognition.
Based on this analysis, the paper proposes several educational intervention strategies aimed at strengthening digital ethics education, en
hancing family digital parenting practices, and promoting collaborative governance among governments, educational institutions, and digital
platforms. These strategies seek to support adolescents in developing responsible digital citizenship and ethical awareness in the age of artifi
cial intelligence.
