On the English Translation of Natural Imagery in Poetry from the Perspective of Cognitive Linguistics -- Taking Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang's Translation of Bai Juyi's Pipa Xing as an Example
Abstract
using Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yangs version as a case study. Drawing on image schema, conceptual metaphor, and cognitive salience, the
analysis reveals how visual, auditory, synesthetic, and emotional imagery are cognitively reconstructed. The translation demonstrates system
atic fidelity to original cognitive structures while adapting to target readerscognitive environments, preserving source-domain metaphors and
image schematic patterns. This research contributes to understanding cognitive mechanisms in poetry translation.
