Bridging Social Scaffolding and Cognitive Spiral: An Integrated Constructivist Approach to Cross-Cultural Education
Abstract
of Proximal Development (ZPD)with Jerome Bruner's spiral curriculum. Drawing on an educational example centered on international stu
dents translating Chinese classical poetry into English, the essay argues that combining these two constructivist frameworks offers a powerful
approach to contemporary education, particularly in multicultural and globalized contexts. Through theoretical discussion and practical illus
tration, this paper demonstrates how short-term instructional scaffolding and long-term spiral curriculum design can work together to support
cognitive, linguistic, and cultural development. The study further highlights how learners actively construct meaning through guided interac
tion and discovery, emphasizing the importance of culturally responsive pedagogy.
