Literature Review on the Impact of Guzheng Learning on Adolescent Mental Health
Abstract
control. With the rise of clinical treatments for adolescent mental health issues, music education has emerged as yet another means of assisting
adolescents in building psychological resilience, without relying solely on prescription medications. The following narrative literature review
highlights existing literature from both domestic and international sources examining the potential relationship between music education and
adolescent mental health, with an emphasis on guzheng education. The potential ways in which guzheng education, through aesthetic experi
ence, ensemble involvement, and physiological regulation, could assist adolescents in developing emotion control, reducing stress, developing
self-efficacy, sense of social belonging, and developing cultural identity within an educational setting are discussed. In addition, this review
will synthesise the findings of other areas including music education, music therapy, and cultural psychology, as well as identify areas for fu
ture research on the use of guzheng in providing mental health support to adolescents in schools.
