Research on Teaching Strategies for Junior High School English Classes under Core Competencies

Shuqing Han

Abstract

The "Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards (2022 Edition)" clearly states that the core competencies of the English
subject encompass four dimensions: language ability, cultural awareness, thinking quality, and learning ability. These are the concentrated
manifestations of the educational value of the English curriculum. The junior high school stage is a crucial transitional period for students'
English learning. Currently, there are still problems in junior high school English classrooms such as emphasizing knowledge while neglecting qualities, and emphasizing form while neglecting effectiveness. This article, based on teaching practice, proposes three simple and feasible
teaching strategies: immersive situation-based, task-driven, and hierarchical progressive. It integrates core competencies into the entire teaching process, optimizes the classroom model, and helps students achieve all-round development, achieving the unity of the instrumental and
humanistic nature of the English subject.
