What is Aesthetic Education and Why it is Difficult to Implement: The Value Origin and Practical Obstacles of Aesthetic Education-Related Teaching Reform in Comprehensive Universities

Jiahao Yu, Yuyang Liu*, Bo Wang, Bingxue Li

Abstract

The essence of aesthetic education is a kind of personality and spiritual education aiming at the all-round development of human beings. It bridges the division between sensibility and rationality and resists the alienation of human beings by instrumental rationality through
aesthetic activities, rather than the popularization of artistic skills or superficial implementation of campus literary and artistic activities. The
root cause of the formalization and poor implementation of aesthetic education in comprehensive universities lies in the systematic obstacles
in four dimensions: cognition, institution, resources and subject under the utilitarian school-running logic, which is essentially the concealment of educational value by instrumental rationality. The reform of aesthetic education must return to the essence of education, break practical barriers through systematic reconstruction, promote the real integration of aesthetic education into the whole process of talent training in
universities, and give play to its supporting role in moral education and cultivating people.
