Research on Hierarchical Cultivation of Cultural Awareness in Junior High School English Reading Based on the Multiple Intelligences Theory

Jiali Deng, Liyan Wang

Abstract

At present, a homogenized teaching mode is widely adopted in junior high school English reading classes, where uniform criteria
are applied to all students while ignoring the objective gaps in their English foundations and cognitive endowments. The Theory of Multiple
Intelligences proposes that every student possesses distinct dominant intelligences, and learners demonstrate stratified proficiency in cultural
perception, text interpretation and cross-cultural application. This study selects multiple cultural reading passages from the Foreign Language
Teaching and Research Press junior high school English textbooks as research carriers, and constructs a hierarchical cultivation system featuring two-way matching between students' intellectual endowments and linguistic proficiency. The system breaks the shackles of homogenized
teaching, and delivers a complete and actionable instructional implementation framework for frontline junior high school English teachers to
optimize reading lessons and implement targeted hierarchical cultivation of cultural awareness as a core competency.
