Yuhan Hou

Abstract

Flowers for Algernon is a famous science fiction novel written by American author Daniel Keyes. The novel records in detail the
whole process of the disabled protagonist Charlie Gordon with the first-person diary format. This article analyzes the hierarchy of needs that
changes with Charlies intellectual changes in the novel based on Maslows Hierarchy of Needs Theory, explores the development of his life
trajectory. From Charlies living circumstances, we can see the desire of the disabled community for love and respect, the difficult living environment of the disabled community, and the authors humanistic care for vulnerable groups in society.
