The Cognitive Processes Behind Denominal Verbs: A Cross-Linguistic Study of English and Chinese
Abstract
denominal verbs. Through case analysis and comparative methods, it demonstrates the explanatory power of Conceptual Metaphor Theory
and Figure-Ground Theory, revealing semantic extension disparities and usage frequency differences linked to cognitive patterns and cultural
contexts. It also highlights how technological progress, and historical traditions shape their evolution. The findings deepen understanding of
denominal verb formation and offer new insights for English-Chinese contrastive studies, language teaching, and translation practice.
